Dingy Dishwasher8:51 PM
Recently a problem arose at one of the properties that I manage. Our tenant was unhappy with her dishwasher’s results. Apparently after thoroughly rinsing the dishes before loading them in the dishwasher, her dishwasher would still produce dingy dishes.
I’ve had this problem on numerous occasions at my own house. My first reaction was that it had to be the detergent that was used. Turns out there are many other factors that lead to soiled dishes from the dishwasher. Here are a few:
• The dishwasher is incorrectly installed
• The dishwasher needs to be re-aligned
• The filter is clogged
• There is a build up of lime
In my old house, it was just a matter of re-installing our dishwasher and making sure it was level. If the dishwasher is not level, your dishes will never get the bath they deserve.
In my tenant’s situation, there was a build up of lime in the dishwasher. An easy solution to a problem like this is to rinse your empty dishwasher with 1 C of lemon juice, white vinegar or bleach. The lime needed to be rinsed clean. The dishes were not being thoroughly rinsed in the cycle; therefore, they didn’t stand a chance.
When in doubt, clean your appliance monthly with vinegar. These appliances include dishwashers, washing machines, coffee makers, etc. You will save yourself lots of money and time in the long run.
