North Carolina Style Burger
8:11 AMEating the same old hamburger can be so boring. I’ve been experimenting by making different sliders, such as the Grilled Chicken and Apple Sliders and the Quinoa Burgers. This weekend I discovered a new love, the North Carolina Style Burger.
I went on www.epicurious.com and perused through their “Grilling” options for some ideas and found this Gourmet recipe. Most southern East-Coasters enjoy the vinegar-based sauce with their barbecue, so I changed it up a bit. Even better I used some sauce from one of our favorite local joints, Benny’s BBQ. I also stuck with a coleslaw recipe that I know. The results were amazing!
2 lbs ground pork (we only have one option at our store)
½ C Vinegar-based barbecue sauce
1 small head of cabbage, cut in head and sliced thinly
6 Kaiser rolls, sliced in half
What You Already Have:
1 C Mayo w/Canola oil
½ tsp celery seed
¼ tsp pepper
½ tsp salt
1 ½ T sugar
½ C Apple Cider Vinegar
Small bowl
2 Medium bowls
Large plate
platter
2) In small bowl, whisk together mayo, celery seed, sugar, pepper, salt and vinegar.
3) Transfer chopped cabbage to medium bowl. Pour half of dressing over cabbage and mix. Let sit. Mix more dressing if desired or store remaining dressing in air-tight container for up to a week.
4) Prepare grill.
6) Form about 6- 8 patties. Spread barbecue sauce on one side, flip and repeat. Grill until cooked through and let rest on platter for about 5 minutes.
7) Spread more barbecue sauce on top of bun. Add a scoop of coleslaw on top of pattie and top with other half of bun.
8) Serve.
