Household Tip #34- Budget for Snags

We certainly have been making some repairs around this place.  As long as we stuck to the budget, it wouldn’t be too bad.  We painted ceilings; repaired grout; painted walls; made some miscellaneous repairs; and updated a bathroom.  Along the way, we ran into a few snags too.  You have to prepare yourself for these “snags” because more than likely they will occur.  Luckily most of these snags were accounted for in our budget.
While updating the vanity in the bathroom, we discovered that the original sink was a little more than clogged.  It was completely corroded.  This clog turned into a two day repair and a reason to call a professional.  Ok, we had to raise the budget a little more.
While updating a light fixture, we discovered that the original had 15,000 wires behind it.  Needless to say, a professional is on his way this morning to install the new fixture.  The hospital bill would cost more than the repair. J Alright, so we’ll have to raise the budget again.
One more lesson I’ve learned from these past two weeks is that being a “neat freak” can backfire.  I threw out the manual for a major appliance.  Never ever throw out manuals, especially if you plan on selling your home with existing appliances.  Said appliance needs a new part and now I have to call a repairman rather than referring to the manual.  I’m going to have to buy a new manual on the internet.   Budget, what budget?
When you’re planning on upgrading or making repairs don’t learn the hard way.  Make sure you budget for a professional.  If you don’t need a professional, account for extra stuff.  9 times out of 10, you’re going to hit a “snag.”
